Earlier this Summer I met with the Patterson Family to create some images for a local magazine feature, with them on the cover! From the moment they arrived at the park, their kids were ready. So much energy and excitement. They literally wanted to climb everything in sight. (Which honestly, I love. That kind of energy makes for the best photos.)
Early on, we spotted the cutest little porcupine climbing a tree, and the kids were totally fascinated. The sun was setting, the light was absolutely gorgeous, and we made our way down toward the river.
The family was dressed perfectly, color-coordinated without being too matchy. They just looked so sweet together. I started with the kids, capturing a few fun poses, and then we shifted spots for some classic family shots. You could really feel how close they are in the way they laughed together, helped each other, and just genuinely enjoyed being around one another.
Like most kiddos, they got a little restless after a bit, so I switched things up and had them gather some rocks to throw into the water. (Always a hit.) Pretty sure dad had the most fun with that. Their youngest was on a mission to find the biggest rocks she could carry, laughing the whole time as they made a huge splash.
Since this family used to live on an island, it felt extra special capturing some of their portraits by the water here in Southern Idaho. I also made sure to photograph each family member individually. Those little one-on-one moments always end up being some of my favorites. The kids were total champs and gave me the sweetest, most genuine expressions.
I hope they had as much fun as I did. Here are a few of my favorite moments from their session!
